2nd Akulov Readings discuss current international affairs
The event took place on February 10.
Timur Akulov (1953鈥2018) was a Russian statesman and politician, a deputy of the State Duma, and a member of the Defense Committee in the Russian parliament. He made a significant contribution to the establishment of the international relations program at our university.
“Interest in the subject of international relations is demonstrated not only by university students but also by schoolchildren, since the topic of foreign policy and international interaction is of paramount importance for Russia. Our country remains one of the pillars of the modern world order, and excluding it from international decision-making processes and the formation of effective coalitions is simply impossible. I would like to address the participants: do not hesitate to show initiative; the atmosphere here has always been friendly and constructive. The contribution of a young scientist, their first steps, and initial results are positively evaluated by senior colleagues,” said Vadim Kozlov, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of International Relations, in his welcoming speech.
The conference provided students with the opportunity to defend their term papers or present the findings of their graduation theses.
“My report covers US-China relations from 2017 to 2025. I am studying this issue and consider it essential for understanding modern foreign policy dynamics. Holding such readings is extremely important for students. Participating in them provides more than just practical public speaking experience,” said Nikolai Bondarenko, student of international relations and head of the Young Diplomat Student Scientific Club.
For many schoolchildren, participation in the readings became a defining moment in choosing their future profession and university.
“I spoke about the importance of developing diplomatic skills starting from school age. It helps develop critical thinking and communication skills. I prepared the report together with my mom. This is my first time at Kazan University. I really like it here. You can feel the spirit of science and knowledge in every corner,” shared Timur Gabidullin, a 4th-grade student.
