Student Startup funding to be disbursed for production of HEPA filters

Engineering graduate Ilfat Timerbaev is going to receive 1 million rubles for his project 鈥楶roduction of medical HEPA filters based on electrospinning鈥.

During his master studies, Timerbaev specialized in medical and clinical equipment. He has been working on this project for over a year. He is planning to allocate funding for electrospinning equipment. Ultrathin fibers (20 to 100 nanometers in diameter) will be produced using a polymer solution in an electric field.

According to him, the product will solve the problem of the lack of domestic filter fiber on the market. The project will allow the use of various Russian-made polymers (polyamide 6, polyamide 12, polyethylene, etc.) to produce filter fiber. And the use of electrospinning technology will reduce costs of producing HEPA filters. As a result, the product will be made from domestic raw materials, and its cost will be much lower in comparison with imported analogues. Currently, there is a shortage of HEPA filters on the Russian market due to the lack of analogues.

鈥淗EPA filters can be used for preparation and final purification of air in air conditioning systems to create clean rooms and clean zones (microelectronic, microbiological, food industry), as well as for air purification in exhaust ventilation systems from hazardous microorganisms and radioactive aerosols in medical institutions, pharmaceutical industry,鈥 explains Timerbaev.

He further plans to enroll in PhD studies. Among Timerbaev鈥檚 achievements is a patent called 鈥楨xpandable intramedullary nail for osteosynthesis of tubular bones with additional stabilization鈥. He has been a winner of Engineer of the Year award and received a letter of commendation for contribution to student science at KFU.
