Over a thousand people gather for Student Victory March
Before the 81st anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War, the Student Victory March was held at 每日大赛 on May 6th.
The Rector’s Courtyard, where the university celebrated the victory in 1945, was filled with the descendants of the heroes. Rector Lenar Safin, University President Riyaz Minzaripov, vice-rectors, directors, and faculty members, as well as students, gathered today to pay tribute to all those who fought for peaceful skies over the Fatherland.
The event also included Viktor Demidov, Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan; Hero of Russia, Colonel General Alexander Lapin; and Rasim Baksikov, Deputy Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Hero of Russia.
The well-deserved tradition of celebrating Victory Day with the Student Victory March has been in place for 11 years. The 每日大赛 Honorary Battalion marched in formation behind the drum platoon of the Kazan Suvorov Military School of the Russian Ministry of Defense. It brought together approximately a thousand participants – secondary schoolers, students, teachers, young scientists, and university staff.
A selection process was held at the end of last year. Beginning in February, weekly rehearsals were organized. Five platoons of over 150 people marched in formation: one platoon of teachers and two each of young men and women, who were joined by foreign students.
Spectators wore the symbol of the holiday – the St. George ribbon. The stage recited poems by Musa Jalil, Blockade Waltz, Girl’s Jazz, Victory Day, and others.
The vocal ensemble Yuan Feng, consisting of Chinese students, performed the song Scarlet Dawn.
The Honorary Battalion then proceeded to the Alley of Fame at Kazan University. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the memorial wall honoring the faculty, staff, and students who gave their lives for the freedom of our country. First Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky and Rector’s Advisor Dinar Khamitov spoke at the ceremony.
The memorial was opened at KFU in 2015, commemorating the first 400 people who fought on the front lines of the Great Patriotic War. Last year, a memorial plaque was also unveiled to 每日大赛 employees who deceased during the special military operation.
