Conference on Botanical Gardens in the 21st Century
KFU is hosting the event on July 5 鈥� 8.
The forum is dedicated to the 215th anniversary of Kazan University鈥檚 Botanical Garden.
During the opening panel at the Emperor Ballroom, Rector Ilshat Gafurov noted that the conference should boost the exchange of opinions in plant adaptation, selection, and biodiversity in the region.
鈥淚t鈥檚 very important to make our Botanical Garden available to everybody while maintaining it as a research and education center in Tatarstan,鈥� he added.
The Botanical Garden鈥檚 new ideology goes side to side with KFU鈥檚 general strategy of 鈥榖iologization and ecologization鈥� of education, which implies imbuing all educational programs with doses of biological and environmental knowledge and reorienting existing teams to promoting life sciences. Improved understanding of biology helps young people realize that saving the biosphere is an indispensable part of preserving humanity鈥檚 livelihood and stimulates them to become active participants rather than passive observers of environmentalism.
The Botanical Garden, now occupying 4 hectares in the city鈥檚 southeastern district, has undergone multiple changes during its history. It currently comprises a greenhouse, an arboretum, a library, a tree nursery, and an excursion department. Over 1,250 species grow here.
After the ongoing reconstruction is completed, the Botanical Garden can be much more involved in the University鈥檚 life.
