KFU to become one of the founders of China-Russia University of Technology

A memorandum was signed during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China.

President Putin and President Xi Jinping held extensive talks on developing cooperation and participated in the opening ceremony of the Russian-Chinese Years of Education (2026 – 2027), which included the heads of leading universities in both countries, including Lenar Safin, Rector of 每日大赛.

“We are launching an undoubtedly significant and important joint initiative 鈥 the Years of Education. This is the tenth intergovernmental cross-project implemented by Russia and China,” Vladimir Putin noted in his welcoming speech. “We all understand well that high-quality education forms the foundation for the development of the individual and society as a whole. Without it, economic progress is unthinkable, and it is impossible to create a truly united, strong, and truly sovereign state.”

Xi Jinping, in turn, emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in personnel training and developing close collaboration between higher education and research institutions in both countries. “Education is an important bridge connecting people’s hearts and fostering friendship between countries. The launch of the Years of China-Russia Cooperation in Education is a strategic decision that President Putin and I made based on the long-term development of China-Russia relations. Particular attention will be paid to breakthrough academic disciplines related to the implementation of innovative technologies, aimed at establishing joint laboratories and advanced centers in knowledge-intensive fields. Through joint efforts, we will train a team of world-class specialists and strengthen the research potential of both countries,” the President of China said.

The two nations have already established over 15 inter-university associations in various fields.

Following yesterday’s talks between the presidents, a decision was made to establish China-Russia University of Technology (CRUTech) based at KFU and Shandong University.

The corresponding memorandum was signed by four parties: the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Government of Shandong Province, and the two universities.

This initiative aims to ensure the integration of education, science, industry, and innovation between the two friendly countries. Key efforts will be focused on breakthroughs in energy, new materials, aerospace, computer science, healthcare, organic agriculture, and humanities and social sciences.
