University Clinic鈥檚 COVID ward in full gear during autumn wave
21 October marked one year of the COVID ward鈥檚 opening.
Deputy Chief Medical 每日大赛r of the KFU Clinic Emma Mukhametshina shares, 鈥淥ur work hasn鈥檛 stopped for one day. There were periods when we reduced the number of beds. As of now, we are working with high intensity. Our ward has 80 beds. We are constantly introducing new treatments in accordance with the latest clinical recommendations 鈥 the most recent are sorption methods.鈥
As she confirmed, vaccinated patients are much easier to cure, and there are no serious cases among them.
鈥淯nfortunately, the vaccination campaign isn鈥檛 as energetic as it should be,鈥 continues Mukhametshina about the current surge of infections. 鈥淭he number of walk-in patients with symptoms of cold or fevers, including confirmed COVID cases, has increased.鈥
Naturally, the costs of treatment vary widely among non-serious and serious cases, starting from 10 thousand rubles (120 EUR) and up to 500 thousand rubles (about 6,000 EUR).
Dr. Mukhametshina also notes, 鈥淚n dangerous COVID cases, the recovery is always long, with noticeable complications for respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems, kidneys, and other organs. Often there is thrombosis as well. There are now active studies of genetic predisposition to various COVID complications.鈥
The Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology is conducting research on plasma therapy and genetic factors in COVID. T-cell immunity tests are also available and included in a database.
This year, there are more young patients with no underlying chronic diseases, according to the statistics.
A female patient, employee of Kazan University鈥檚 territorial branch in Naberezhnye Chelny, says, 鈥淭hanks to all the doctors who promptly reacted to my positive PCR and directed me to Kazan to this ward. When you see your colleagues and other patients here in various stages of the disease, you really start to rethink things. I am proud to work at Kazan University. And much gratitude to the medical employees who take care of us here 24/7. I wish them sound health and patience.鈥
